In a seemingly plethora of neutrals, we absolutely love how pink stands out! From its associations with femininity to its presence in fashion, did you know that pink has a rich history?
At Persuasive Media, we were all about pink even before Matel made it the comeback colour!
The Cultural Significance of Pink
Pink has been associated with many movements in history and can be recognized as a colour that signifies femininity, love, tenderness, and romance in various societies around the world.
A combination of pink and white is associated with innocence, whereas a combination of pink and black links to eroticism and seduction. In the 21st century, pink is seen as a symbol of femininity, though it has not always been seen this way. Believe it or not, in the 1920s, pink was seen as a colour that
reflected masculinity.
From traditional gender roles to modern fashion trends, pink has played a pivotal role in shaping our cultural norms.
Pink in Art and Fashion
When we talk about pink, it's hard not to notice how it pops up all over the place. Artists from the early 1700’s such as Homer, Raphael, and Lucretius have used pink to convey a wide range of emotions; from innocence to sensuality.
In more recent times pink has been used in the realm of fashion, and has exceeded gender boundaries, becoming a symbol of self-expression and empowerment.
Why We Love Pink
People whose fav colour is pink tend to be empathetic, nurturing, creative, compassionate, warm, romantic, generous, calming and expressive.
When we first curated our brand’s colour palette, we received a lot of feedback from colleagues saying that we should stick to more “easy” colour choices, ones that would appeal to the vast majority. Turns out we didn’t listen and we made the right decision to follow our tickled pink little hearts.
